From the southern medieval picture, to the paradise beaches inside Natural Parks and into the World Heritage site of Sintra... ride through vineyards with this very special route that we’ve prepared for you. “Beholding south, there is sharp bend in the Sado River irrigating the smooth green plain that pre-empts the great Alentejo plain.” Accommodations will be held at exclusive romantic palaces, luxury medieval and historical castles and fashionable country hotels.

  • Number of weeks: 1 Week

Day 1

After the arrival at the Lisbon airport, we will drive for 30 minutes to the 17th Century Castle of Palmela, now transformed into a historic luxury hotel. Following a general briefing on the tour, we will have an exquisite dinner with the most superb Portuguese wines from this region.

Day 2

For our first pedalling day, we are going to leave Palmela and head towards a typical fishing village on the coast. We will ride throughout one of the most important wine regions in the country, and visit the oldest wine producer in Portugal. Here we will be given a very special tour to the vineyards and an exceptional wine tasting. We will then be able to witness the live production of ceramic/glazed tiles known as “azulejos” to better appreciate this ancient and complex form of art. Leaving the Wine region, it is now time to ride to todays’ destination right on the Atlantic Ocean coast – typical traditional fishing village of southern Portugal, Sesimbra. We will rest in a 5 star Spa Hotel with an ocean front.

Day 3

After having breakfast we will pedal into Tróia. We leave Sesimbra through the 200 million year old Arrábida Natural Park, where after a thrilling downhill we are going to have lunch in a remote sumptuous beach, arrive at the city of Setúbal, visit the emblematic market and the 15th Century Church of Jesus. We will take the ferry to the Tróia Peninsula – an enormous strip of golden sand, with miles of wonderful empty beaches, vast stretches of dunes as well as a pine forest. Relax in the design luxury hotel that we have chosen for you.

Day 4

The day begins as we leave Tróia on our bikes through the dunes and pine forest, with a stop-over at the Romans ruins - the largest known salted fish and fish sauce production complex in the occidental part of the Roman Empire. When reaching Comporta we will visit the 30 hectares (74 acres) of vineyards, situated in a valley of sandy soil, slightly above sea level in the middle of an ecological reserve. Following this visit we will go down to the cellars to taste one of the finest Alentejo wines. On the way we will have a gourmet picnic in one of the pristine Blue Coast beaches. Heading to the Roman village of Alcácer do Sal we will travel through some of the loveliest terrain and you will be marvelled at the scenic splendour where the Sado River touches the shore majestically blending the blue of the water and the green of the landscape. Today’s final destination is a 500 year old castle transformed into a luxury hotel. During our exclusive dinner at the castle you will enjoy the splendid panoramic views over the rivers and fields.

Day 5

Breakfast will start early followed by a visit to the village of Alcácer do Sal, known for its extreme importance during the Roman and Moorish periods, with its salt production and salt fish processing. With plans for an easy day ahead we will leave the Salt Village through an immense pine forest back road to reach our lunch and rest spot – a refined luxury hotel located on a beautiful dam. We have decided to give you a free afternoon to enjoy the local scenario, but if you prefer some action, we also have several water sport related activities ready for you, or restful activities like bird watching or relaxing massages. With the chirping of the sparrows as ambience music soaring above the trees while enjoying the afternoon sun, you will taste one of the finest dinners of the region. Just enjoy.

Day 6

Good morning! Today we will be off to an early start. We will drive for 1:30h towards the World Heritage Sintra village, where you will feel as if in a real-life fairytale – among its magical palaces, forests and castles, Sintra will have you feeling the mystical enchantment of its rare beauty. Before hoping on our bikes we are going to visit the famous Pena Palace, one of the best examples of the 19th century Romantic period in Portugal, magnificent and colourful on the outside, while on the inside decorated according to the tastes of Kings and Queens who lived there. Biking through Sintra forest we will reach Quinta da Regaleira, a romantic style palace with architectural touches of Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance, surrounded by luxurious emerald vegetation, together creating a dreamlike atmosphere. On our way to the coast, we will make one final stop for the day in the westernmost point of Europe – Cape Roca – where our staff will be waiting for you with some exclusive strawberries and champagne. A shuttle will take us to our accommodation, a five-star luxurious and romantic palace from the 18th century, with lush gardens and decorated rooms with furnishings of extraordinary wealth.

Day 7

Following breakfast we’ll return to the Portuguese capital, to discover the Discoveries City of Lisbon on bike. We will start a very smooth descent that will take you from the city centre straight to the spot where the caravels left Portugal to discover new worlds. On our way back we’ll have a taste of the world famous pastries “pastel de nata”, by the Jerónimos Monastery. At sunset we will savour our tour and its special moments with a nostalgic live Fado music dinner – UNESCO World’s Intangible Cultural Heritage – where you will be able to relish the most typical and exquisite Portuguese gastronomy.
