Located in the far west of Europe, Portugal is a small country but extremely diverse in landscapes and natural habitats: an extensive coastline with large estuaries, lagoons and vast beaches, dunes and rocky cliffs, vast cereal plains, admirable cork “montados” and river valleys. The Alentejo has exceptional conditions for bird watching, offering a wide range of habitats, as well as magnificent landscapes. The regional food is delicious and the historical and cultural heritage is very rich.
The purpose of this trip is the observation of birds in Alentejo "Montados".
The portuguese Montados are wooded pastoral habitats dominated by cork and holm oaks, with a controlled growth of scrub and a maintained pasture by extensive rotational cultivation and/or grazing. They support, regularly,  more than 160 bird species, and more than 100 species breed in the Montados. Mediterranean ecosystem that is home to a rich biodiversity and diverse.
Species such as the Dartford Warbler, the Azure-winged Magpie, the Black Vulture, the Griffon Vulture or the Black Stork are possible to observe in the region.
We also intend with this Tours show othert characteristic habitat of our region, the cereal plains.

Day 1: Lisbon Airport – Évora

After arriving at Lisbon Airport will be picked up by our guide that will lead to a first contact with the birds in Portugal. Then we will go to Evora, where we will have dinner and spend the night. Here you can enjoy visiting the historical heritage of Évora.

 

Day 2: Birdwatching in Lagoa dos Patos

After breakfast we will spend the morning birding in the Patos Lagoon. This is a prime location for bird watching in the region. After lunch we went to the Herdade da Negrita where we will overnight the next three nights.

 

Day 3: Birdwatching in Herdade da Negrita

During this day we will make some routes inside the property to watch birds in cork and holm oaks forest.
We will be able to observe the black vulture and the griffon vulture, the golden eagle, the black stork, the Dartford Warbler, the Azure Winged Magpie, among others.

Day 4: Birdwatching in Noudar and Barrancos

Day aimed to know the territories adjacent to the Herdade. During the morning we will meet and make a route in the area of Barrancos and the Castle of Noudar, where we can observe the Blue Rock Thrush, Eurasian Crag Martin or maybe the White-rumped Swift. After lunch in the village of Barrancos will make a journey to observe species such as the black vulture and griffon vulture among others..

 

Day 5: Birdwatching in Castro Verde

We went to Castro Verde where we will spend the day bird watching in the extensive plains, locally referred to as White Field. These plains are among the best places for watching Great Bustard, the Little Bustard, the Calandra Lark, the Stone Curlew and the Spanish Imperial Eagle.

 

Day 6: Departure to Lisbon

The visit ends this day, after breakfast at the hotel follow to the Lisbon airport in time to check in. Depending on the time of flight we can make some short stops.
