An unknown and wild Algarve will unfold. Within the Natural Park of the Alentejo’s southwest and the Vicentina Coast, this “new land” mixes the energy of the mountain and the cliffs and ocean that hides plenty of Pirates and Discoveries stories. Know this remote region through 5 fabulous pedestrian trails and enjoy your accommodation in a typical Portuguese village.

Day 1: Arrival at Aldeia da Pedralva

(Entry at 4 P.M.)
The Vicentina Coast, Sagres Region, where we can still find real natural oasis, wild beaches and good energies, is no doubt our Portugal Secret West Coast.
Here we found one more treasure: The Pedralva Village, a pile of ruins in an incomparable site, between the Natural Park of Costa Vicentina and dozens of beaches.

Day 2: Trail of Atalaia

Distance: 8.5 km
Approximate duration: 3 h
Level of dificulty: easy
Description of the trail:
Starting at Amoreira beach, this trail will lead you south all along the top of dark slate cliffs, amongst an imensely rich coastal vegetaion, providing spectacular views on small creeks and rocky islands. You will come across a small fishing village as well as an ancient mourish temple’s ruins perched on the top of the cliff, and discover the vernacular Arrifana fishing village and it’s bay sheltered from the north winds.
4.30 PM – Transfer back to Pedralva

Day 3

8 to 9 A.M. – Breakfast
9.30 A.M. – Leaving for “Vale Paraíso’s” trail
Rendez vous point: Reception at Pedralva

“Vale Paraíso’s” trail features:
Length – about 15 km
Dificulty – easy to moderate
Duration – approximately 5 hours
Departure: Pedralva
Arrival: Bordeira beach

The trail starts at Pedralva and gradually takes by a valley and a creek, in which you can see, besides the vegetation, some of the numerous typical species of flora the mountain has to offer, cork oaks, arbutus, bushes and heaths. When arriving to the Vilarinha village you’ll initiate a climb that will take you 130 meters above sea level, providing unforgettable views over the hills, valleys and ravines that form the Algarve’s mountain. The second part of the trail starts here taking you towards Bordeira village. We’ll have a picnic here and visit the local chapel. The final part of the trail will lead to the Bordeira beach and ultimately, walking along the sea, to Carrapateira.
In this area we’ll do a picnic (lunch) with some of the local delicacies.

4.30 PM – Transfer back to Pedralva in our VW “Slow Van”.

Day 4

8 to 9 A.M. – Breakfast
9.30 A.M. – Leaving for “Marés’” trail
Rendez vous point: Reception at Pedralva – Transfer to Amado’s beach

“Marés’” trail features:
Length – 14 km
Dificulty – easy to moderate
Duration – approximately 5 hours
Departure: Amado’s beach
Arrival: Castelejo’s beach

The trail starts at the Amado beach. When there you’ll start climbing on paths by the cliffs directed south. Going through valleys, ravines, pine yards (we’ll have a picnic here to restore energy) and water lines you’ll reach the immense Castelejo beach. You’ll be able to sightsee some of the most beautiful beaches and rocky cliffs you have ever seen, not to mention the several species of birds and plants.

The trail ends with another picnic (lunch) in which you can taste some of the local delicacies.
4.30 PM – Transfer back to Pedralva in our VW “Slow Van”.

Day 5

8 to 9 A.M. – Breakfast
9.30 A.M. – Leaving for “Finisterra’s” trail
Rendez vous point: Reception at Pedralva – Transfer to Castelejo

“Finisterra’s” trail features:
Length – about 17 km
Dificulty –moderate
Duration – approximately 6 hours
Departure: Castelejo
Arrival: Lighthouse – São Vicente’s Cape

The trail starts by the forest ranger house. From this point on you’ll start a descent with pine trees, arbutus and heath in sight, till you reach a lagoon surrounded by poplars, canes and bushes. As you go down towards the sea the vegetation changes you’ll start to see rosemary, shrubs, gorse, thyme and kermes oak. When reaching sea level the west coast landscapes are extremely beautiful. A steep climb up to D’Aspa’s tower (109 m high) is the trails next difficulty, from which you can watch the west coast cliffs and beaches. The final part of the trail leads south, through ravines, water lines and crop fields, you’ll reach São Vicente’s cape. Lunch in St. Vicent Cape or Sagres Village.

5 P.M. – Return to Pedralva.

Day 6: Free day

8 to 9.30 A.M. – Breakfast
10 A.M. – Transfer to Lagos
4.30 P.M. – Transfer back to Pedralva

Day 7

8 to 9 A.M. – Breakfast
9.30 A.M. – Leaving for “South’s” trail
Rendez vous point: Reception at Pedralva

“South’s” trail features:
Length – about 16 km
Dificulty – easy to moderate
Duration – approximately 6 hours
Departure: Monte dos Amantes
Arrival: Figueira’s beach

The trail starts at Monte dos Amantes with its characteristic menhirs. We’ll move south by a cereal plateau, passing by Monte Peniche to the limestone bluffs of the south coast with its unique vegetation of mastic trees, rosemary, gorse, thyme and kermes oak. A picnic will be served here.
The trail goes further down to the Benaceitão’s ravine accessing several of the south coast beaches: Ingrina, Zavial and Furnas – beaches of exquisite beauty and gentle peacefulness – till you reach Figueira beach along with its freshness and traditional vegetation. A picnic lunch and rest is what follows. Finally we set track to Pedralva.
4.30 P.M. – Return to Pedralva

Day 8

Breakfast
